Police said they will talk to Chelsea following reports that Ashley Cole accidentally shot a work placement student

Police will speak to officials from Chelsea in the coming days following reports that defender Ashley Cole accidentally shot a work placement student at the football club’s training ground.

The club said it was taking “appropriate action” over the matter.

The News of the World reported that Cole did not know a .22 air rifle was loaded when he fired it at 21-year-old Tom Cowan.

It was reported that the sports science student, who is on a one-year work placement at Chelsea, was hit in the side by a lead pellet at the training ground in Cobham.

Chelsea’s medical staff reportedly treated the bleeding wound and Cowan did not require hospital treatment.

A club statement read: “We have fully investigated the incident and we are taking appropriate action. We will not be commenting further as it is an internal matter.”

A Surrey police spokesman said: “We can confirm that while no direct allegation has been made to Surrey police, the matter has been brought to our attention through reports in the media, and we will be contacting the club in due course to establish whether any criminal offence has been committed.”

“We are working quickly to restore these and will be back to normal as soon as we can. There has been no impact on the privacy of customers’ data.”

It is unclear just how many people were affected.

England wicketkeeper Steven Davies has become the country’s first serving professional to announce he is gay, describing the revelation as “a massive relief”.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the Surrey player, aged 24, said: “I’m comfortable with who I am – and happy to say who I am in public.”

Davies, who was part of England’s victorious Ashes squad, said he decided to make the announcement after months of personal conflict, receiving the full support of his team-mates.

“This is the right time for me. I feel it is right to be out in the open about my sexuality. If more people do it, the more acceptable it will become. That must be a good thing,” he said.

“To speak out is a massive relief for me, but if I can just help one person to deal with their sexuality then that’s all I care about.”

Davies, who started his professional cricketing career with Worcestershire when he was 18, said he could no longer bear to lie about his sexuality. In the interview he said he had the full support of his family, who learned of his homosexuality five years ago.

“I hope it’s all going to be fine with the fans,” Davies added. “If there is any abuse or anything then I don’t need to worry about those people giving it out. The people that matter to me are family, friends and my team-mates, and everyone has been so amazing, that’s what counts.”

The former England under-19 captain made his international debut in 2009 against the West Indies during the Twenty20 in Trinidad.

He admitted that he was partly inspired to make the announcement by Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas, who also went public about his homosexuality in 2009.

The wicketkeeper, who was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, said: “Gareth Thomas’s story helped me. It just showed me it can be done. He was brave enough to stand up and say who he was. It was a very courageous thing to do, so if I can help anyone else like he helped me, then that would be great.”

Premiership striker Louis Saha has escaped unharmed after crashing his Ferrari on a country road, police sources confirmed.

The 32-year-old Everton star was driving his blue Ferrari 458 in Wilmslow, Cheshire, shortly before 9pm on Sunday night when he lost control of the car and collided with a fence.

The Frenchman, who was alone in the vehicle, was unhurt and no other vehicles were involved.

The accident happened on the A538 Altrincham Road, near a tunnel where former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo crashed his Ferrari in January 2009.

A spokeswoman from Cheshire Police said: “At 8.54pm last night police were called to Altrincham Road, Wilmslow, to the report of a single vehicle road traffic collision.

“Officers attended the scene where a blue Ferrari 458 had collided with a fence outside the tunnel.

“The 32-year-old driver was uninjured.

“Inquiries are continuing.”

Saha played in Everton’s 2-0 home win over Sunderland at Goodison Park on Saturday.

He signed for the Merseyside club in 2008 after four and a half years with Manchester United.

Former President of MADD Chapter Gets Arrested For Drunk Driving!!

Debra Oberlin, former president of Gainesville, Florida’s MADD chapter, was arrested for driving under the influence.

As you may or may not know, MADD stands for Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Oberlin was pulled over by police around 1 am last week after officers saw her driving erratically. She was swerving and crossing lanes before they pulled her over.

Failing a field sobriety test, Oberlin had a .234 blood-alcohol level, which far surpasses the state’s legal limit of .08.

A spokesperson for MADD made a statement concerning Oberlin’s arrest, saying:

“MADD is concerned to hear about the recent alleged drunk driving arrest of Debra Oberlin. MADD commends law enforcement for their efforts to keep our roads safe and are hopeful that no one was hurt as a result of this incident.”

Yes, thankfully nobody was hurt. We hope this woman has learned her lesson.

The Countryfile presenter and her partner, Irish property developer Gerard Cunningham, 52, have decided to wait until the baby is born to find out its sex.

“We didn’t think it would be possible and the pregnancy has been a wonderful surprise for both of us,” she said.

“I have endometriosis and honestly wasn’t sure if I would ever realize my ambition to be a mum so to fall pregnant feels like a bit of a miracle.

“We are both delighted and our families are very happy.”

The baby is due in August. Bradbury has said she will continue to work and the family home will be in west London.

Endometriosis is a common condition in which small pieces of the womb lining are found outside the womb. The condition commonly causes pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis or lower back.

It can lead to fertility problems and its cause is uncertain.

Former Tottenham and Wolves defender Dean Richards has died after a long-term illness, it was has been announced. He was 36.

Richards, who also played for Bradford and Southampton, was forced to retire from the game in March 2005 after suffering from dizzy spells and headaches while at White Hart Lane.

A statement on the Wolves website read: “Everyone at Wolves was saddened to hear of the death of Dean Richards, who passed away this morning at the age of 36 after a long-term battle with serious illness.”

The statement continued: “Wolves would like to take this opportunity to send their condolences to the former Molineux defender’s family and friends.”

The Black Country club announced they were planning a tribute to Richards ahead of next Sunday’s game with Spurs at Molineux.

Bradford-born Richards started his career with his hometown club where he made more than 80 appearances.

The club said on www.bradfordcity.co.uk: “The club are truly devastated to hear of the death of former Bradford City fans’ favourite Dean Richards.”

A statement on the Tottenham website read: “Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur was saddened to hear of the death of our former player Dean Richards, who passed away this morning at the age of 36 after a long-term battle with serious illness.”

It continued: “There will be a tribute paid to the defender ahead of our fixture next Sunday at Molineux against his former club Wolves.

This came after local police said they expected the death toll in Christchurch to rise above 200, with the total number of confirmed dead now at 147.

More than 50 people remain unaccounted for, officials added.

The severity of the injuries sustained by those caught up in the magnitude 6.3 disaster has slowed the grim process of identifying the dead, and only one of the British victims’ names has been confirmed.

Gregory Tobin, 25, a chef, from Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, had been on a round-the-world trip and was believed to have been working temporarily at a garage in Christchurch when the devastation struck.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We understand at least four British people are dead, one missing and two injured.”

British High Commission spokesman Chris Harrington confirmed that two British nationals aged over 50, a male tourist and a woman who lives in Christchurch, had been taken to hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries sustained in the tremor.

The man remains in hospital but the woman has been discharged.

Another British woman was discharged from hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack following the quake, Mr Harrington added.

A British taskforce of disaster victim identification (DVI) experts is due to arrive in the city on Monday to help identify victims.

Kelsey Grammer’s replacement in the Broadway show La Cage aux Folles, Jeffrey Tambor, has pulled out of the show due to complications from a recent hip surgery.

However, there’s more to it as reports have come out that Tambor struggled to keep up with the high musical notes that is required of his character. Sources say that he lacked the sophistication and confidence that Kelsey brought to the role and even lashed out at producers, saying, “You don’t have faith in me!”

The source also added that he was “freaking out.”

Even after hiring a high-priced vocal coach and flying in director Terry Johnson to work with him, backstage insiders say that Tambor still lacked the confidence to continue playing the role of Georges on stage.

On Friday, Tambor pulled out of the show, which had producers giving a statement that said, “the pain and challenge of performing in a musical eight times a week proved to be too physically demanding” for Tambor.

Chris Hoch will fill in for the mean time.

Sad. But, La Cage aux Folles is a demanding show so we can see why he felt the need to pull out.

Our first instinct would be to say that this is pret-ty crazy, but who knows? Maybe it could be a blessing in disguise!

These are such surprising news.

Charlie Sheen being difficult?? Of course not!!!

No, but seriously, looks like Charlie may lose yet another job.

Major League producer James Robinson says that he would love to have Charlie join the sequel to his film, but with Charlie’s latest outbursts and crazy behaviour, he’s not sure what the future holds for his film. And without Charlie, the film just won’t happen.

Robinson explains:

“He’s a talented person. What a waste. What a shame. I don’t know where he’s going right now. I don’t know where he’s going to end up.

He’s very important to the movie. I can’t tell you for sure [if we’ll cancel it], but I can only say that his character, and him playing that character, is very prominent. So that could be a possibility.”

When asked if he would replace Charlie in the role of Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn in the third sequel, Robinson says:

“It never occurred to me to have anyone but him play the character that we wrote for him. He’s not in the film yet because we don’t have a deal with him yet. Our respective representatives have had dialogue but I haven’t talked to him. His part is absolutely in the script and he is very prominently part of the story.”

Having worked with Lindsay Lohan on Georgia Rule, Robinson is no stranger to working with troubled stars. He explains that Charlie needs to shape up before he could even consider putting him in the film. He adds:

“Both sides of the contract always have obligations. If it’s obvious, or we believe he can’t perform, then it would be stupid to put him in the film if he would have difficulty filming that role. There’s been very few times I’ve ever had an actor that couldn’t perform.

He was good to work with. I’m an optimist. He’s being a little difficult right now, and I understand that. I’m sure he’s got his demons torturing him. I sincerely hope there’s a way he can come out of this dark tunnel. But it appears that, so far, he’s either not following whatever treatment should be administered or it’s not working. I frankly don’t know which it is.”

It’s probably a combination of both, honestly. It’s pretty obvious that Charlie isn’t exactly following the rules of treatment and if he is, well then, something else needs to be done because it’s obviously not working.

It’s too bad because we actually would have enjoyed seeing Charlie go back to his old Major League character.

“The media is making it exciting with all the questions about Banksy. I think it’s all good and if he shows up, he shows up. I won’t stop him.”

In other words, hell yes they want the publicity so the crazier the stunt the better!

This still leaves just one problem. If he does come wearing a mask, how will they be able to prove that its really him?!

Child freed after bank vault ordeal

A US toddler spent two hours trapped in a bank vault in suburban Atlanta.

Conyers firefighters rescued the 14-month-old from the vault after the child went missing while visiting a grandparent who worked at the Wells Fargo bank in Conyers.

The child was found after being spotted on security cameras inside the vault, which has a time locked.

Rescue workers arrived and pumped fresh air into the vault while a locksmith worked on prying loose the door.

Authorities said the youngster could be heard crying during the rescue. Authorities did not release the child’s name.

Passengers spoke of their relief at escaping the “living hell” engulfing Libya as they arrived in Britain on a Government-chartered plane.

A total of 79 people, including Britons and Canadians, touched down at Gatwick Airport in West Sussex on board Flight YU005 following an arduous mission to escape the uprising.

Among them was Iftikhar Ulhak, 59, a chemical engineer who lives in Wimbledon, south London, who described chaotic scenes at Tripoli airport as people tried to flee.

Speaking at Gatwick’s South Terminal, he said: “There are so many people wanting to leave and Tripoli airport is simply not catered for it. There were people camping out, making makeshift tents. They had bags strewn all over the place. There was no system. It was so overwhelming for the Libyan authorities.

“They just cannot cope. There were women, children, old people. It was terrible getting into the airport. It took us four hours despite the fact that the British Embassy staff were there.”

Talking about the scenes on the streets, he said: “There were a lot of gunshots at night. Today I saw tanks move in and some young soldiers probably loyal to the regime guarding the airport.

“The streets are quite deserted though. It gives quite an eerie feeling. Where I was staying in a compound, there was bustling activity but this morning there was not a soul to be seen.”

Despite widespread criticism of the British efforts to repatriate people, Mr Ulhak praised the authorities in general, saying they were “very good”. However, he added: “The phones in the main consular office were not working and that was the main criticism because it meant not being able to contact them and find out when flights were leaving.”

David Smith, from Perthshire, Scotland, said: “The inside of the airport was terrible. It was difficult to move through. We were lucky to have British Embassy staff there who did an excellent job getting us through there.”

Another passenger, Indian oil worker Sanchin Nike, 39 who lives in Calgary, Canada, described Tripoli as a “living hell” and told how he felt scared venturing out after dusk.

Troubled star Charlie Sheen will not be moving to HBO for a new half-hour show called Sheen’s Corner, according to reports.

The 45-year-old former Spin City star was recently reported to have secured a deal with the US TV network for a 10-show series.

But, according to US website GossipCop, the rumours are false.

A representative for HBO told the website: “There’s no truth to it.”

It comes after Sheen’s TV show, Two And A Half Men, was shut down, just hours after he launched a bizarre verbal attack on his CBS bosses.

Former US president George W Bush has cancelled plans to attend an education discussion in Denver, citing an invitation to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the same event.

Mr Bush was to attend the on Saturday, but his spokesman, David Sherzer, said that he did not want to share a forum with someone who has “wilfully and repeatedly done great harm to the interests of the US”.

Mr Assange is in Britain, fighting extradition to Sweden as part of a sex crimes inquiry.

He is free on bail, but it was not immediately clear if he ever planned to be in Denver.

Charlie Sheen’s Two And A Half Men Most Likely Cancelled – For GOOD!

Wow. We knew that his behaviour would catch up with him one day, but we didn’t expect it so suddenly – or like this.

Now that Charlie Sheen’s insane, out of control rant against his Two and a Half Men boss, Chuck Lorre, resulted in production being suspended indefinitely, many have begun to wonder what will happen to the series, and unfortunately, we’ve gotten word that it’s not looking good.

As we’ve already reported, Sheen lost about $5 million when he essentially forfeited his pay for the four episodes originally expected to begin taping next week, which is pocket change for him, but in truly unfortunate news, it appears as though the show’s crew won’t be seeing a dime of that, either – despite the loss of work being out of their control.

Meanwhile, we’re SHOCKED to hear that sources close to the comedy don’t think that production will EVER resume, and that last week’s episode will most likely serve as an impromptu series finale!

Unbelievable. He may be in denial and justify his behaviour by claiming that he’s not hurting anyone else with his antics, but once again, he’s cost countless people work, and more importantly, money.

Such a shame.
